The Amazon Associates statement

Steve's Outpost is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

What that means in practice

Most product links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one and buy something, Amazon pays us a percentage of the sale. You pay exactly the same price — the commission comes out of Amazon's margin, not out of your pocket, and the price you see on Amazon is the price you would see without our link.

Every affiliate link on this site carries rel="sponsored nofollow", which is the markup Google requires on monetized links, and every one of them is routed through our own /go/ resolver so the destination is consistent and auditable. Our Amazon tracking tag is stevesoutpost-20.

Every commercial page on this site also carries a visible #ad notice above the first affiliate link, before you have a chance to click one. That is what the FTC means by "clear and conspicuous", and a disclosure buried in a footer does not meet it.

What we do not accept

• No paid placement. No brand has ever paid to appear on this site or to rank higher on it, and none will.
• No free product. We do not accept review samples. We could not honestly claim to have tested anything anyway, so a sample would buy nothing but an obligation.
• No sponsored posts. Every page here is editorial.
• No affiliate links on trust pages. This page, the methodology, the editorial policy, about, privacy and terms pages carry no monetized links of any kind.

Does commission influence the rankings?

No, and here is the concrete test you can apply: Amazon pays different commission rates in different categories, and on several roundups on this site the top pick is the cheapest product on the page — which pays us the least. Every roundup also names one product we tell you not to buy, and it is frequently the highest-ranking product in the search results, which is to say the one we would earn the most from.

If commission were driving the order, those two things would not be true.

About the prices you see

Prices on this site come from Amazon's API and carry the date they were last checked. They are refreshed daily. If our data is more than 48 hours old, the number disappears and the button reads "Check price on Amazon" instead — we do not show a remembered figure.

Amazon prices change constantly and can differ by region, by Prime status and by seller. The price on Amazon at the moment you check out is the only one that counts, and we cannot honor or match anything shown here.

Other affiliate programs

At launch, Amazon is the only affiliate program we participate in. If that changes, this page will be updated before any link is, and the same rules will apply: the link is disclosed, it carries the required markup, and the commission does not change the ranking.
